SURFACE MANAGER SETUP DAY (Stefan Gaar)

By noon all equipment from the push divers was transported to the cave. Reinhard and Markus started with assembling their gear while the rest of the team walked back to the cars for lunch. After lunch we started with the equipment of the support divers. Two sets of fully rigged D12s filled with tx 21/35 as well as primary lights and argon where shared over the whole project among the support divers.

This means only personal equipment like drysuits, fins, stages and underwear had to be walked to the cave. Again a perfect example how commitment to the DIR principles makes the logistics in a challenging project like the Vis easier without safety compromises.

By 15:00 JP and Jörg started gearing up for the set-up dives inside the cave. During the next two hours the team hauled all gear through the dry part of the cave into the water so JP and Jörg could place it on the line waiting for tomorrow’s push dive. The following equipment was used for this dive:

Two Oxygen tanks to 6m
Two tanks of 21m gas to 21m
The rest of the equipment was placed at the pebble slope at 36m depth where the gear was sorted per diver:
One heating tube per diver
Two magnum scooters per diver
One stage each with deep deco gas which Reinhard and Markus would place in the shaft
Two bottom stages with gas for the shallower passages
And two bottom stages with 120m gas.

After returning the empty set-up stages we had dinner at the old mill. During the night four people volunteered to sleep in the cave. The others followed Reinhard and Markus to the hotel.
